Biography

Idris Asghar is an international finance, legal and business adviser whose career has spanned London, the United Arab Emirates and Southeast Asia.

Beginning his professional career in London, Idris developed his early experience within investment banking and financial services before moving to the UAE, where he worked within foreign exchange and international financial markets. These formative years provided exposure to global capital markets and the increasingly international nature of private and corporate wealth.

He subsequently relocated to Southeast Asia, where he founded ASEAN Consultants. Over the past 14 years, Idris has built and managed the firm and its multidisciplinary team of professionals, advising internationally mobile individuals, families and businesses on financial planning, wealth management and complex cross-border matters.

Today, Idris is also a Partner at Opus Law International in Bangkok, working alongside legal professionals serving international clients with interests across Thailand and multiple jurisdictions. His involvement reflects an increasingly important aspect of his work: the intersection between finance, law, taxation and international business.

His business interests also extend to the United Arab Emirates, where he is involved in international business consultancy and works with entrepreneurs, business owners and ultra-high-net-worth individuals on matters including estate and succession planning, cross-border structuring, international tax considerations, corporate transactions and M&A.

A significant part of Idris's work involves bringing together specialists from different disciplines and jurisdictions. Rather than viewing financial, legal, tax and commercial matters in isolation, his approach is centred on understanding the wider picture and coordinating the appropriate professional expertise around increasingly complex international circumstances.

Having developed professional relationships across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Idris also works to connect businesses, investors and counterparties internationally, including facilitating commercial relationships and navigating complex cross-border transactions.
